Reiki is a technique to activate, restore and harmonize the all-pervading life energy. The Reiki system combines techniques from both Buddhism and Shintoism. The Usui Reiki Ryoho was founded by Mikao Usui (1865–1926) in the early 1920’s while meditating at the Kurama Dera (temple) in the North of Kyoto. In the late 30’s or early 40’s Reiki came to Hawaii from where it spread all over the world.
